My name is Caitlin and I'm a self-proclaimed fashionista. (I'm going to go ahead and give my real name and assume that anyone who follows my blog is a normal person and therefore not a creeper and isn't going to try to hunt me down and kill me. If you're gonna act sketchy, do me a favor and escort your creepy self off of my blog. Thanks.) I'm a junior in high school and I've been homeschooled my whole life. Waittttt. Don't even start. Not all homeschoolers wear denim jumpers and turtlenecks. I would rather have my kidney removed with a can opener than be caught in public wearing that train wreck.

I haven't always been interested in fashion, in fact for the past three years, I planned to be a teacher. A high school band director, to be exact. I've played the flute in marching and concert band for five years, and I'm entering my second year of being the drum major of my marching band. Because band was something I enjoyed and excelled at, I began to consider pursuing a career in music. For two years, I practiced constantly and obsessed over preparing to get a scholarship. However, in the past year, music has gotten placed on the back burner. I still love it, but I don't think becoming a professional musician is for me. I see myself continuing to play my flute in college and possibly pick up another instrument, but as for majoring in music? I don't think that's going to happen. But here's where fashion comes in.
I learned how to sew when I was 10, using my grandmother's sewing machine. I've messed around with it on and off since then, sewing two costumes (a 50's sockhop dress and a 60's sheath dress), among other miscellaneous apparel, accessories, and crafts. Being self-taught, I never saw sewing as more than something to do for fun.

| 7th grade was a rough time for everyone. |
| 9th grade was quite a bit better. |
When I got into high school, I became more interested in clothing, makeup, and hair. Soon, I realized that I enjoy putting together outfits. Then I began to notice that I was actually good at it. I learned how to take old fashioned clothing and turn them into something wearable. Whether that's pairing an over-sized thrift store sweater with some leggings and flats for a cute fall outfit or hemming up a 90's style jumper of my mom's for a flowy summer dress. I would go places and people would ask me where I got my sweater or my dress and the look on their faces when I said "a thrift store" or "it was my mom's, and I refashioned it" were a huge encouragement to me.
Around this time, I also discovered my love of musical theatre. Though I've never acted in a play in my life, I still have a secret longing to play Eponine in a production of Les Miserables. However, I'm dreaming a dream right there. (*ba-dum-shh* sorry sorry, couldn't resist.) I distinctly remember the night my sister introduced me to my first musical ever. She sat me down and said "Cait, you're going to watch The Phantom of the Opera." One of my friends is completely obsessed with Phantom, so I didn't have any arguments against watching it, I wanted to see if it was as good as she was telling me it was. My sister and I rented the 2004 version of The Phantom of the Opera with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum (yeah yeah, shush. I know that's not the ideal version to start with. But it still has a special place in my heart). Oh goodness. From the first organ chord, I was hooked. I listened to the soundtrack for the rest of the week, then I slowly branched into the soundtracks of other musicals such as Les Miserables, Wicked, Mamma Mia, Chicago, and Rent. But February of this year is when it all went down. The Wicked tour came through my town, and my two best girlfriends and I got tickets. Our seats were front row, balcony, so we had a great view. Not only was the music amazing as always, but what took my breath away was the costumes. They were such wonderfully detailed and had such beautiful construction. The costumes weren't only great for the lead characters, but even each member of the ensemble had their own personality. I left the show knowing that I wanted to pursue fashion with the hopes of becoming a costume designer.
And that's where I'm at now. As of August 6th, 2014, I plan to go to the University of Memphis, major in fashion merchandising and minor in theatre production and design. That way I'll be able to pursue fashion and if everything works out, I can go to work in a theatre. I think it's a pretty set plan.
As for what this blog is going to be like, it will consist of the following. Posts about fashion, makeup, hair, and also personal musings and updates from my life. I hope that anyone who is reading this will stick along with my journey. I'm excited to see where it's going to take me and what I'm going to learn in the next two years as I prepare for college. I'll catch you guys later. <3
